Our climber on staff, Chris, specializes in SRS (Single/Stationary Rope System). With this system, heavy equipment, such as bucket trucks, do not need to be brought onto your lawn, causing damage and leaving large ruts. When climbing a tree with an SRS setup, the gear is anchored into the uppermost central limb that can support the climbers weight, and a rope is installed. With modern climbing gear and years of training and practice, Chris can effectively move throughout the canopy of the tree. He can redirect where needed and reach parts of the tree that a bucket truck may not be able to reach without the boom hitting other parts. Another benefit of SRS climbing is reaching trees that are otherwise unreachable. Modern day equipment such as bucket trucks and spider lifts cannot reach certain trees due to extreme heights, sensitive areas between targets, and extreme vertical slopes. Climbing is an extremely skillful position, requiring the abilities to assess the tree and its health and branch structure, isolate an anchor high in the tree, install the climbing line and ascent/descent system, move throughout the canopy to reach various parts of the tree, install advanced rigging systems to mitigate the tremendous physical forces associated with tree work, and safely complete the task.
Our climber, Chris, also competes in and judges/scores several tree climbing competitions held throughout the United States every year, most recently competing in the Iowa Arborist Association tree climbing competition in Ames and helping set up and judge the “LEGENDS” tree climbing competition in Windermere, Florida.
Chris is an avid recreational climber and trains with other tree climbers on a regular basis to keep his skills sharp and share techniques and the best safety practices.
